Ecommerce development

Ecommerce development connects product selection, payment and day-to-day order administration. Catalogue structure, trading rules and data sources are established before design and integrations are finalised. Before launch, we test the complete buying journey, including failed payments and the actions your staff need to perform. Dev4you.lt works with WooCommerce, Shopify and custom Laravel solutions, selecting the platform around the trading model rather than product count alone.Discuss an ecommerce projectExplore this service

SERVICE ASSESSMENT

Ecommerce readiness diagnostic

Review catalogue, checkout, fulfilment and launch readiness. The assessment uses your answers; it does not forecast sales or certify legal compliance.

AT A GLANCE

A clear starting point

Who it is for

Retailers needing a manageable catalogue, a clear purchase journey and practical tools for everyday order handling.

What we need to start

Provide sample product data, trading rules, required suppliers and systems, and the markets you plan to serve.

What you receive

Receive a prepared store with agreed payments, delivery options, tested buying scenarios and administration handover.

WHO IT IS FOR

Ecommerce development: how do we choose a platform?

Ecommerce development implements product presentation, purchasing, payment and order management. A store needs more than a visual check: successful and failed payments, delivery rules, data exchange and administration processes all matter.

We assess catalogue complexity, product variations, languages, markets and connections to other systems. WooCommerce is one of the solutions we work with. The question is not simply whether a product can be displayed, but how staff will change its price, manage stock, process orders and communicate with customers.

A representative product sample and a description of the trading process make that assessment practical. We identify paid extension licences, supplier charges, hosting and ongoing maintenance separately. Unusual pricing, business-customer permissions or individually approved orders should be understood before the platform is selected, rather than discovered after the design is built.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce is suitable when commerce should run within WordPress and flexible content and product structures matter. We assess the catalogue, product variations, payment and delivery providers, and extension compatibility. Hosting, updates and maintenance are included in planning so that extra features do not become an unmanageable collection of different plugins.

Shopify

We choose Shopify when its administration and commerce model suits the client’s processes. Before design begins, we check that the selected plan supports the required functions, markets, payments and integrations. Platform and app charges, along with customisation boundaries, are discussed separately. This makes both the launch work and day-to-day store operation clear.

Custom commerce with Laravel

We use Laravel for bespoke pricing, complex B2B orders, buyer permissions or unusual connections with other systems. Catalogue, checkout and administration logic is built around the documented process. This gives more freedom to model functions but requires its own development, testing and maintenance plan; a conventional shop is not made more complex merely to be custom-built.

SCOPE

How do we plan product data and catalogue imports?

The catalogue must help customers choose and staff maintain accurate information. We define categories, shared attributes and individual variations. Size, colour or configuration can determine a separate price and stock level, so these should not exist only in a free-text description. You provide product codes, descriptions, images and a sample data file.

  • A standalone data exchange project between existing systems can be commissioned through our API and system integration service.

How do we plan product data and catalogue imports?

For each field, we identify the authoritative source: where prices, stock and marketing descriptions are changed. A varied sample is imported first to check variation relationships, images and missing values. This reveals data problems before the full transfer. We also define what happens on a repeat import so a revised file does not create duplicate products.

The WooCommerce CSV import documentation describes the product field structure; before a full import, data is tested with a small agreed product sample.

How do payments, delivery and order handling work?

The buying journey includes the basket, customer details, delivery selection, total confirmation and an understandable order status. Payment and delivery providers are named in the project after their commercial terms and technical capabilities are checked. You arrange the relevant business accounts and confirm the delivery rules used by your store.

We define what customers see when they cancel a payment or the provider returns an error. Tests check the status left for staff and whether notifications remain accurate. Your team should be able to distinguish orders ready for fulfilment from unpaid orders and those requiring manual attention. Refund or document-generation scenarios are included in the functional scope before development.

When is an accounting or warehouse integration useful?

An integration is useful when the store must send orders to accounting or receive stock information from a warehouse. We first establish the direction of each transfer and who controls the data. If stock is maintained in the warehouse system, a separate change in the store should not silently disappear during the next update.

Available options depend on the supplier’s interface, permissions and account plan. We examine what happens when the other system is unavailable and how staff identify an order that has not transferred. A new-store project names the required integration work explicitly; broader data exchange and support are assessed through the API and systems integration service.

How we work

Each stage defines the work, your input and the result to check.

01

Analysing sales processes and data

We review representative products and the current fulfilment process. You supply trading rules and a system inventory, producing an agreed account of data sources and the buying journey.

02

Platform, structure and design

We agree the platform, categories and principal screens. You approve the product-selection logic, giving development a specific catalogue and administration plan. We compare WooCommerce, Shopify and a custom Laravel solution, including recurring costs and limitations.

03

Implementing the catalogue and integrations

We implement imports, payments, delivery and the required connections. Your nominated suppliers provide appropriate access, and an intermediate version supports the agreed shopping actions.

04

Testing purchase scenarios

We test purchases, cancellations, errors and staff workflows. You verify commercial rules, while the results distinguish launch-ready functions from issues still requiring correction. The test plan also identifies responsibility boundaries between the chosen platform, payment provider and custom integrations.

05

Launch and administration handover

We coordinate the final data update and launch. Administration is transferred to your team with clear responsibility for maintenance, supplier accounts and licence renewals.

How do we plan store SEO and sales measurement?

Category and product structures follow meaningful shopping choices, while filters and duplicate addresses receive an indexing plan. When replacing an existing store, we map important old addresses to relevant destinations and preserve useful content. Product descriptions, delivery information and prices must remain understandable on the page itself.

Before implementing measurement, we agree when an order counts as a purchase and how the same transaction is recognised. Tests check that clicking a payment button or reopening a confirmation page does not create a false purchase. The order system, payment provider and analytics may report different totals; we investigate statuses, reporting periods and measurement coverage rather than treating one counter as the full business result.

How is the store tested and launched?

Before launch, we complete test purchases on phones and computers, check the required delivery options and review notifications and stock changes. Failure scenarios and staff access permissions are tested separately. Acceptance includes the correct order in administration and connected systems, not just an attractive checkout screenshot.

Your business and its responsible advisers supply or approve sales, returns and privacy information. We hand over administration guidance, an integration inventory and the test results. Responsibility for updates, paid licences and operational issues is established before launch. Building the store and maintaining it afterwards are distinct parts of the work.

Illustrative scenario: product sizes and warehouse stock

This example describes an illustrative project. A retailer supplies products in several sizes and manages stock in a separate system. We first align variation codes and test representative data, then build filters and the import. Customers select an individual size, and staff can identify the precise variation ordered.

The acceptance result is concrete: a test order contains the correct product code, total, delivery option and payment status. A transfer failure is visible to the responsible member of staff. The check summary demonstrates whether the store and its staff receive the information needed for fulfilment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

An online store adds product, purchasing and order processes. Payments, delivery rules, notifications, stock and integrations need testing. Assessment therefore goes beyond page count and design.

Yes. Dev4you.lt builds with WooCommerce and also works with Shopify and custom Laravel solutions. The appropriate option depends on the catalogue, trading rules, customer groups, integrations and administration. We explain what the platform already supports, what needs a paid extension and what requires programming. Long-term licence, platform and maintenance costs are considered too.

Migration is possible after assessing the export format, data quality and new system structure. Images, variants, customers and order history are agreed separately. A trial migration checks the defined scope.

Required payment and delivery methods are selected at the start. Possibilities depend on provider interfaces, the platform and contracted services. Specific integrations must be named rather than assumed from a general development proposal.

Yes, where the chosen accounting system has a suitable interface or data exchange method. We define the data transferred, its authoritative source and how synchronisation errors are handled.

Technical presentation of terms and required form elements can be implemented within the project. Legal content suitable for the specific business must be supplied or approved by the responsible specialist. A generic template does not itself establish full compliance.

Key factors include catalogue and process complexity, design, languages, data migration and integrations. Platform, licence, payment provider and maintenance expenses are also separated so costs beyond launch are clear.

Yes, updates, backups, integrations and purchasing checks need to be planned. Maintenance can be handed over to the client’s team or commissioned separately. Responsibility should not remain undefined after the first successful order.

A custom store is appropriate when standard platform limits obstruct important processes, such as bespoke pricing, unusual order approval, complex buyer permissions or integrations. We first check whether WooCommerce or Shopify could reliably meet the same need. A custom solution must justify its additional development and support scope, so the decision is based on real scenarios rather than a feature wish list alone.
